Hip Hop dance was developed from a variety of street dancing styles in the 1970s made popular by dance crews in the USA. The dance industry responded with a commercial studio based version of Hip Hop sometimes known as “new style”. The Hip Hop culture has a large following around the world as it is seen as “cool” making it a very popular dance style. Hip Hop teaches dancers how to move, feel, flow and grove in the most varied ways possible. Hip Hop dancers demonstrate supreme coordination when performing. A Hip Hop dancer can be doing 3 or 4 different movements in just one step in a hip hop routine. Students and participants in hip-hop will gain strength and develop great cardiovascular fitness. Hip Hop has gained global popularity with the release of motion pictures such as “step up” which has created a constantly evolving dance form of endless styles.
